Client portal

A secure place for clients to send everything

Instead of email attachments and text-message photos, your clients upload their tax documents to one portal for your firm.

In short: clients upload PDFs, phone photos or ZIP files to your firm's portal. NiniTaxBot classifies each document and extracts its data for your team to review. Clients never see your review queue or your tax software.

What can clients upload?

  • PDFs downloaded from payroll providers, banks and brokerages, including multi-page statements.
  • Phone photos of paper forms.
  • ZIP files, for clients who prefer to send everything at once.

Common documents include W-2s, the 1099 family (such as 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC and 1099-R) and Schedule K-1s.

Why a portal instead of email?

Email is convenient but hard to control: attachments sit in inboxes, get forwarded, and are difficult to track. A dedicated portal gives clients one place to send documents and gives your firm one place to receive them. Uploaded documents are kept in encrypted storage, and each firm's data is isolated at the database level. Our guide on portal vs. email document collection covers the trade-offs in more depth.

Tips you can share with clients

  • Photograph forms flat, in good light, with all four corners visible.
  • Upload the full document, including every page of a brokerage statement.
  • If a document is password-protected, send it without the password lock or share the password through a separate channel your firm approves.
  • Upload documents as they arrive rather than waiting for the full set; your firm can see what is still outstanding.

What happens after upload?

Each file is classified and its values extracted, then it appears in your firm's review queue. Your team can also see which documents have been received and which are still outstanding for each client.

Spend this tax season reviewing, not retyping.
